Genesis 46:10

And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman.

The sons of Simeon were Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar, with Shaul distinguished as the son of a Canaanitish woman. They are listed among Jacob's descendants who went with him to Egypt, as part of the detailed record of Israel's journey down into Egypt. The wider list in Genesis 46:8-27 enumerates Jacob's sons and grandsons, along with two women, who went down to Egypt. The count in the account is sixty-eight men, with their wives and daughters counted as additional. The list does not include everyone who accompanied Jacob, omitting his daughters, granddaughters, and some children of his grandsons.

The passage belongs to the account of the origin of the twelve tribes and their sojourn in Egypt, treated as part of the book's continuous historical record. The chapter shows God's providence directing Israel's going into Egypt, so that God sent His children there. God had a twofold purpose in sending them: to preserve His own people from famine and try them, and to keep the representatives of God's truth constantly before Egypt. The chapter belongs to the account of God's care in preserving the ancestors of the promised Seed, and the inclusion of Simeon's sons belongs to the record of the family through which God did this. As part of the history of Joseph, the chapter shows that God may lead a person by a roundabout path yet guide him to the purpose intended for him.
