Genesis 46:6

Jacob went down into Egypt with his sons and their families, and in that migration is seen the multiplying of Abraham's seed. They and their descendants sojourned there many years, until the Lord called them out to lead them into the land of Canaan. His purpose was to make this nation of slaves into a people who would reveal His character to the idolatrous nations of the world.
