Genesis 47:25

And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.

The verse belongs to the account of Egypt's relief during the famine. It records the Egyptians acknowledging that their lives had been saved and asking for favor in order to become Pharaoh's servants, after they had exchanged their land and themselves for food. The abundance Egypt enjoyed in the midst of famine was credited to God and to Joseph, whose wise management had enriched the kingdom. In contrast to the Egyptians, the children of Israel were not enslaved nor compelled to sell their possessions for food, but kept land to live on and to keep their livestock because of Joseph's service to Egypt. Joseph's father and brothers paid no tax and were supplied generously with food.
