Noah and Family Leave the Ark Under the RainbowBible World

Genesis 8:15

And God spake unto Noah, saying,

Before God spoke, Noah and his family of eight had been long shut up in the ark, anxiously watching the waters decrease and desiring to go forth again. They sent out a raven that flew back and forth and then a dove that at first found no rest, and after seven days the dove returned with an olive leaf in its mouth, to their great rejoicing. Noah could remove the covering from the top of the ark but could not open the door that God had shut, so God spoke through an angel who descended and opened the door, preparing and commanding Noah and his family to go forth out of the ark and to bring forth every living thing with them. The verse is God speaking directly to Noah.

It belongs to the inspired Genesis account of Noah and the Flood, which are historical facts. In that account God destroyed the world because of its iniquity, yet made His purpose known to Noah and instructed him to warn the people and build the massive ark, where the obedient could find shelter so that all who would hear the warning and turn from unrighteousness could be saved. Only eight persons were saved; all were tested by the truth that Noah preached and those who believed were saved, while the fulfillment of the warning that the disobedient would perish demonstrated the truth of God's word. Christ's reference to Noah and the Flood treats them as historical and presents Noah's generation as a pattern for the age before Christ's return. The Flood stands as an example of divine judgment on human sin, and the sins that brought the Flood are increasing again, so God's judgment is certain as the end nears.
