Noah Looks Up Beside the Ark on the MountainBible World
8:18Genesis 8:18
And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him:
Noah was a real, literal person who lived and who went forth alive after a real, literal flood in history. The Genesis flood account that contains this going-forth is the inspired divine word, inseparable from the New Testament. The survivors identified here are eight persons in all — Noah with his wife and his sons and his sons' wives. Those eight had entered the ark in obedience to God's warning.
The massive ark from which they are shown going forth was God's provision to save all who would hear the warning and turn from unrighteousness. The Flood whose ending is shown here destroyed the world as God's judgment poured out because of mankind's increasing sin and iniquity. All had been tested by the truth that Noah preached, and those who believed were saved when Noah went forth with his family. Noah's day surrounding this going-forth prefigures the present age before Christ appears in the clouds of heaven, because human nature uninfluenced by the Spirit of God is the same now as then, and the character of that generation specifies the character of this age.
