Genesis 8:5
And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
Genesis 8 belongs to the inspired Old Testament record of the real history of Noah and the Flood, and that record alone reveals the time of pre-flood conditions. The Flood account explains how the gigantic people, animals, and trees from before the Flood were buried and preserved. The waters decreased continually until, on the first day of the tenth month, the tops of the mountains were seen.
As the waters fell the ark came to rest on a cluster of mountains that had stood through the storm. Because those mountains stood close together the ark shifted from one to another and ceased to be driven across the ocean. The mountains and the surrounding land looked broken and rough amid water, soft mud, and turbulence, and their appearance brought relief.
Noah and his family of eight, still shut inside the ark, anxiously watched the waters go down while longing and waiting to go out upon the earth again. The Flood was God's judgment that destroyed the world because of human sin and iniquity. God used the massive ark to save all who would heed the warning, turn from unrighteousness, and believe the truth Noah preached, and only eight persons were saved after all were tested.
Noah's generation, with human nature uninfluenced by the Spirit of God, prefigures the present age before Christ appears. The sins that brought the Flood judgment are increasing again as the end approaches.
