Noah With the Raven and the DoveBible World

Genesis 8:6

And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:

Genesis 8:6 belongs to the inspired and factual Genesis account of Noah and the Flood. It marks the end of forty days. Those forty days came after the tops of the mountains became visible. At that time Noah and his family were anxiously watching the waters recede and longing to go forth again upon the earth to learn whether it was ready for them to leave.

Noah opened the window of the ark to send out a raven, a bird of quick scent, to discover whether the earth had become dry. The raven found nothing but water and continued flying to and from the ark. Noah then sent out a dove, which at first returned because it found no resting place, and after seven days brought back an olive leaf, bringing great joy to his family.

The Flood surrounding the verse shows that God destroyed and judged the world because of human sin and iniquity. The ark was a massive boat provided to save all who would hear the warning, turn from unrighteousness, and believe the truth Noah preached, yet only eight persons were saved. The sins that brought the Flood and destroyed Sodom are increasing again, and certain punishment for such sin remains.
