Habakkuk Cries Out as the Chaldeans Ride Inby emmanuel_higgins

Habakkuk 1:2

O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!

The cry goes up from Judah in a time of violence and injustice, when persecution of the faithful has long continued. It is uttered while the wicked appear to prosper and the righteous suffer, with no relief in sight. The nation around them is sinking into moral and national ruin.

It is the voice of the faithful prophet joined with God's loyal people, lifted to God for help in their distress. They plead to know how long they must keep crying out before He hears and saves them. Yet as they cry out about violence, they see no answer and no deliverance. Their anguish deepens into questioning whether God's promises of deliverance can still be fulfilled.
