The Chaldeans are the Babylonians, whom God Himself would raise up as a divinely appointed scourge against Judah. God would bring Babylon to power within the lifetime of those asking what would happen. Their rise to power would be sudden, and their forces would fall suddenly upon Judah in invasion.
That invasion would carry Judah's princes and leading people away into captivity in Babylon. Judah's cities and villages would be laid waste, with its cultivated fields left desolate.
