Habakkuk 2:18
What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?
Habakkuk 2:18 belongs to the larger passage of Habakkuk 2:3-20, whose vision will not tarry beyond the time appointed for it. It is the word of the Lord for the last days, whose reality is now unfolding because the end is near. It clearly describes scenes of destruction and desolation that will soon be witnessed universally.
Its description gives only a faint picture compared with the actual reality that is coming. Its fulfillment is as certain as the desolation seen at San Francisco. It applies at the time when Satan is drilling his army and developing strong parties to be ready for the great battle of the last great conflict.
It asks who will be wise in the time when evil springs forth. It shows that men in high places who suppose themselves wise will block the way, so that the highway prepared for the King must be cleared. It calls for readiness for the coming of the Son of man.
