Habakkuk 3:11
The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear. The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.
The Lord fought for Israel at Gibeon after Joshua's night march to relieve the city. The Amorite armies fled before Israel up toward Beth-horon, and great stones were cast from heaven upon them on the descent, so that more died by hailstones than Israel killed with the sword. The standing still of the sun and moon, with the light of arrows and glittering spear, pictures God fighting against the nations in Joshua's battle. That battle displayed God's power in defeating Israel's enemies and bringing salvation to His people.
The verse belongs to a vision of God coming to save His people and His anointed. It portrays the brightness and power of God's appearing, with the sun and moon standing still amid the light of His arrows and shining spear, and is applied to Christ's appearing. It is connected with the time of trouble, when the sun rises and the moon stands still as God delivers His people.
