Habakkuk 3:6

He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.

Habakkuk 3:6 pictures God standing over the earth in sovereign power, surveying and measuring it and exercising judgment upon it. His beholding drives the nations asunder before His presence, scattering and overthrowing and shaking them. Even the most enduring parts of creation are moved by Him, with the everlasting and ancient mountains scattered and the perpetual hills bowed low and trembling.

The verse declares that His ways are everlasting. That everlasting character means He does not change, for His nature and His law are love. The shaking and upheaval describe His coming to save His people and His anointed, applied to the appearing of Christ in majesty and power to usher in the reign of righteousness. That display of power underlies the hope that sustains His people through trial.
