Hebrews 1:12

And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

The chapter containing the verse shows that the Father and the Son are distinct individual personalities. God appointed the Son heir of all things and made the worlds by Him. The Son is the brightness of the Father's glory and the express image of His person, upholding all things by the word of His power, and after purging sins by Himself He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The heavens and earth will grow old and wear out like clothing and like an old garment will be folded up, put aside, and changed. In contrast, Christ, who is God, remains the same unchanged forever, and His years will never fail or end. The verse thus contrasts the perishability of creation with the enduring nature of Christ. By showing the heavens and earth were made by Christ yet will change while He endures, the verse supports His identity as Creator and rightful Ruler and presents Him as everlasting and unchanging.

Created things such as leaves and flowers display divine power and teach lessons about the power to save, but they are not God. Seeing the great and grand work accomplished through the gift of the Son should turn men and women from pleasure-seeking and frivolity to realize the meaning of the great salvation offered through Jesus Christ, which is eternal life to the receiver. Because human workers are finite and can do only finite work while the infinite and unfailing God supplies power, efficiency, and increase, people should trust Him and cooperate with heavenly agencies rather than fret about doing impossible things alone.
