Hebrews 2:6

But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

The verse asks what man is that God is mindful of him, and what the son of man is that God visits him, expressing humble wonder at the littleness of humanity in contrast with God's special regard and mindfulness. It is the question those who study the heavens and behold God's wondrous works should ask. In context it testifies that the world to come was not put in subjection to angels, but man was made a little lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor, and set over the works of God's hands with all things put in subjection under his feet.

Although all things are not yet seen put under him or visibly subject to humanity, this is seen fulfilled in Jesus. He is the human one made lower than the angels and then crowned with glory and honor, with all things placed under His feet. He was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death and crowned with glory and honor that by the grace of God He should taste death for every man, as the captain bringing many sons unto glory made perfect through sufferings.

Humanity was given a place of rule over God's works, that dominion was lost through sin, and what the first Adam lost will be restored through the second Adam, Jesus. God's mindfulness and visitation of man is the exaltation held out to those who will receive Christ, for through the man Christ Jesus human nature is exalted. To those who believe on His name He gives power to become the sons of God, and through His power and grace they become partakers of the divine nature and one with Him as He is one with the Father by conformity to His character, and through conformity to the image of Christ they are sanctified.

It belongs to the great fundamental truths of so great salvation that must not be neglected for speculation over what is not clearly revealed. That salvation was first spoken by the Lord and confirmed by those who heard Him, with God bearing witness by signs and wonders and miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost. It calls for the more earnest heed lest it slip and for accountability to God for wonderful privileges, for if the word spoken by angels was steadfast with just recompense for every transgression and disobedience, there is no escape if this salvation is neglected.

Seeing one suffer does not prove he has done something needing repentance. Every believer in every place and in whatever work is to show simplicity and true godliness, press close to the bleeding side of Jesus Christ, willingly be a partaker with Christ in His sufferings, and so be conformed to the image of Christ. The verse stirs the church, convicts backsliders and sinners of pride, backsliding, and partaking of the spirit of the world, and calls them to repentance and a different life. It calls to taking up neglected duties in families and practicing home religion, and leads to gratitude and a resolve to put aside fear of the world and serve God faithfully.
