Hebrews 3:3
For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
Christ is counted worthy of more glory and more honor than Moses. The reason is that the one who builds a house has more honor than the house itself. Moses, though great, was faithful in God's house as a servant, the prophet through whom God communicated to the church in the wilderness. Christ is the Son over His own house, and He is the builder of that house and of all things, the originator and foundation of the whole Jewish economy.
He Himself was the invisible Leader of Israel in their wilderness wandering, veiled in the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night as the Angel of the covenant coming in the name of God. He is higher than Moses and higher than the highest angel, bearing the name of Jehovah upon His headpiece and the name of Israel upon His breastpiece. He is also truly and really human, the son of Mary and of the seed of David by human descent, who actually shared the same flesh and blood as the children and did not merely pretend to take human nature. In human form He humbled Himself and became a servant so that humanity could touch humanity, yet as Son of God and Majesty of heaven He remains exalted above the angels, and by His life in humanity those who receive Him and believe on His name become partakers of the divine nature and are carried with Him in His work of redemption.
Believers are that house of Christ if they hold their confidence and hope firm to the end. Because of who He is, unbelief toward Him brings a heavier retribution than befell unbelieving Israel in the wilderness. The disciples had failed to recognize that the One among them was greater than Moses and wiser than Solomon, and they regretted that unbelief and earthly concerns had kept them from understanding His identity and mission.
As the present greater leader than Moses or Joshua, He alone with God deserves all glory for what God does through His people. Across the ages He speaks to God's people and invites them to bring Him cases too difficult for human wisdom or skill, for He can remove difficulties, make what is complex clear and what is dark light, and will not disappoint those who trust His word.
