Abraham Gazes at the Stars Before His Tentby emmanuel_higgins

Hebrews 6:13

For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,

When God made promise to Abraham, He confirmed it by appealing to Himself, because He could swear by no greater witness. The same swearing by Himself is seen in His oaths to Abraham, to Isaac, and to David. This agrees with His requirement of an oath between one person and another.

It agrees also with Jesus answering when the high priest placed Him under oath at His trial. This sets a divine example that makes it right for Christians who live in God's light and strength to solemnly call God to witness that what they say is the truth when lawfully called to testify in matters of importance decided by law.
