Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
The power of an endless life is in Christ, and it is the power of His cross. That power must take hold of those redeemed by His blood to change their heart and life. It must reach to the inmost depths of mind and heart and stir the whole nature to abandon every form and phase of idolatry. When it does so, even ignorant hearts thrill with solemn awe and bound with exultation.
That power is felt in this present life through the truth. Those who suffer reproach for the truth's sake especially experience it, with God's Spirit witnessing with their spirit that they are owned and accepted by Him. It demonstrates the power of truth to influence hearts, so that true converts cooperate with teachers with energy. That cooperation comes through earnest prayer blended with devoted labor, and through teachers filled with the inspiration and power of the Holy Spirit and determined to conquer in the strength of the Lord Jesus.
The same power sustains God's people in endurance and through the last trial in the last days until they receive the immortal inheritance and the gift of eternal life. It makes heaven cheap to them, so that present sufferings are not worthy to be compared with the glory to be revealed in them.
