Hebrews 8:9
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
The former covenant was made with Israel's ancestors at the time God took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt. They did not continue faithful to that covenant, and He therefore did not regard them as His covenant people. The verse belongs to the Bible's presentation of the two covenants and to the promise of the new covenant.
The new covenant is not according to that former covenant, for God's purpose is to put His law into the mind and write it in the heart. By that inward writing He makes His people especially consecrated to His service and brings them into a close relationship with Himself. That promised new covenant embraces both the white people and the colored people of the Southern States. They have souls to save, and in their ignorance and destitution they need to be taught that Christ is their Creator and Redeemer, so they are not to be passed by.
