Hosea Holding His Newborn Son in the Doorwayby emmanuel_higgins

Hosea 1:4

And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.

The name Jezreel recalls the bloodshed at Jezreel, where Naboth was murdered through Jezebel's intrigue and where Jehu later slaughtered Ahab's descendants. Its setting in the opening chapter portrays Israel's backsliding, conformity to the world, idolatry, and departure from God as spiritual adultery, the mixing of righteousness with sin. The child is named Jezreel as a sign that God would in a little while punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed at Jezreel. That name warns rebellious, apostate Israel that its rebellion will bring judgment, beginning with the punishment of the house of Jehu.

The verse foretells that the kingdom of the house of Israel will be brought to an end and will cease. It belongs to Hosea's definite prediction and warning that the northern kingdom faces coming captivity and desolation.
