Hosea 1:6

And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.

The daughter named in the verse is Lo-ruhamah, the second figurative child setting forth Israel's apostasy. Her name means not pitied. It signifies the cutting off of mercy. Hosea's painful family history symbolizes Jehovah's separation from His people. That separation came because of backsliding and departure from God, portrayed as spiritual adultery. It was the fruit of persistent rebellion.

The name declares that God would no longer show mercy to the house of Israel. He would utterly take them away. He would bring the house of Israel to an end. That taking away would come through captivity. It would mean captivity and desolation for the northern tribes, and the verse belongs to Hosea's definite warning and prophecy of that coming captivity.
