Hosea 10:13
Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
The verse belongs to a warning given to the ten tribes of Israel, calling them to repentance and declaring that persistence in sin would bring disaster upon them. To plow wickedness, reap iniquity, and eat the fruit of lies means that their practice of evil and deceit produced iniquity and brought its bitter consequences and the results of believing lies. To trust in thy way and in the multitude of mighty men means to trust in one's own course, plans, and ways and to rely on powerful men and on human and military strength instead of turning to God and turning from the conduct that had weakened the kingdom.
The leaders of Israel misplaced their confidence in alliances with heathen nations to restore their political power. Continued transgression would bring national disaster, with upheaval for the people, plundering of their fortresses, and cutting off of their king. The only hope was to turn from iniquitous plans and sow righteousness in order to reap mercy.
