Hosea 11:6
And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels. And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.
The judgment falls after a long record of tender care for Israel as a child, when God loved him and called His son out of Egypt. He taught Ephraim to walk while taking them by the arms, and He healed them though they did not know it. He drew them with cords of a man and bands of love, removed the yoke from their jaws, and gave them food. Against that care stands the charge that His people were bent to backsliding from Him, and though called to the Most High none at all would exalt Him. The sword abiding on his cities and consuming his branches and devouring them comes because of their own counsels, as the result of their own plans and their turning away despite all that care.
