Hosea 13:14

I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

God has pledged to ransom His people from the power of the grave and to redeem them from death, to plague death and to destroy the grave, and repentance from that purpose shall be hidden from Him. That ransom and redemption of the faithful from death and the grave will bring death and the grave themselves to an end. That deliverance comes through Christ as the Deliverer, through whom life and immortality are brought to light. Through Jesus Christ the triumph over death is won, and the mortal putting on of immortality is fulfilled.

It will be fulfilled at His coming and appearing, on a near glorious day, earth's jubilee, the last day and resurrection morning. Then the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven and the last trumpet shall sound. The means is resurrection and change in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. At that sounding the dead shall be raised incorruptible and the living shall be changed, corruption putting on incorruption and the mortal putting on immortality.

The dead are the sleeping saints and faithful loved ones resting from their labors in the last sleep, who will be awakened to glorious immortality in the morning of the resurrection. At the resurrection morn they will be raised to live forever with the Lord. Then death will lose its sting and be swallowed up in victory and brought to an end, and the grave will lose its victory and be destroyed. Their dominion will end as the chains with which death binds the dead are broken and the prison that confines them is burst open, to proclaim God's people free.

Therefore those who mourn the faithful dead who rest from their labors do not sorrow as those who have no hope. The promise soothes grief over loved ones who sleep among the dead, because God's servants will have the children taken from them by death restored to them. The loved one laid to rest in the last sleep will rise again, and the redeemed will meet the dead again where they will never part, to live forever with the Lord. At the resurrection they will shout this triumph.
