Hosea Warning Against a Worshipper Kissing a Calf Idolby emmanuel_higgins

Hosea 13:2

And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

Israel sinned more and more by making molten images out of their silver. Those idols were fashioned according to human understanding and skill, entirely the work of craftsmen. The calf images thus produced were treated as objects of worship, with those who sacrificed commanded to kiss the calves.

Persistence in such idolatry brings swift disappearance, like a morning cloud, like early dew, like chaff driven by the whirlwind, and like smoke escaping from a chimney. Against these man-made gods stands the truth that the Lord alone is God and Savior. The making and worshiping of the images shows how the pursuit of worldly power and honor turns people away from God and brings destruction upon themselves.
