Hosea 5:1
Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor. Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.
The warning is addressed together to the priests, to the house of Israel, and to the house of the king, announcing that judgment is determined against them. It comes upon Israel's priests and leaders specifically because they had become a snare to the people. Like a net spread to entrap, their influence led the people into sin rather than guarding them from it. This took place in a land ruled by violence and crime, where lawlessness prevailed. Even the religious leaders themselves were guilty of murder and corruption, sharing in the evils for which the nation stood condemned.
