Hosea 5:14
For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him. For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.
Hosea 5:14 stands within the Hosea 4–7 portion of Hosea's prophecy. In that setting it predicts the coming captivity of the northern kingdom and the tribes. It also predicts the desolation of the northern kingdom.
In the same context it warns Israel against wicked alliances. In particular it warns against an alliance with Egypt. Beyond this prophetic context of coming captivity and warning against alliance, the verse itself is left without further explanation.
