Hosea 5:6
They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them. They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.
Treachery against the Lord and the bringing forth of strange children are followed by judgment in which a month devours the unfaithful and their portions. Going with flocks and herds to seek the Lord means holding many meetings, praying for sinners and exhorting them to be converted, visiting from house to house, and praying zealously for mourners at the anxious seats. Those who come in that way to seek the Lord shall not find Him because He has withdrawn Himself from them, which means He has in some way changed His position. Earnest religious effort to seek the Lord does not prove He is present, and the proof is to wait for the result when hidden sin is exposed and makes plain He was not with them. The withdrawal is connected with the possibility that Satan would at some time produce counterfeit conversions.
