Hosea 6:9
And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness. And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.
In its original setting the verse portrays the priests of Israel banding together by common agreement to kill travelers on the road, lying in wait for victims just as troops of robbers ambush a man. That united violence by the priestly company was not isolated, but belonged to the widespread crime and corruption that spread after Israel turned to idolatry. As prophecy the verse also depicts the condition of the world just before the second coming, when iniquity abounds because men have transgressed the law and broken the everlasting covenant that was given on condition of obedience. As men turn away from God and from His righteous government, the world comes more and more under the sway of seducing spirits.
In that latter-day fulfillment the company of priests joins with human lawmakers to trample upon God's law and to frame human laws that they will compel the people to accept. Blinded by error, those priests lead the people to receive their words in place of God's, teaching that it makes no difference whether they keep the law of God instituted in Eden. They press the faithful few who still keep God's law to act according to the laws of the land and to keep Sunday on the ground that the whole world keeps Sunday.
