Hosea Holding a Half-Burnt Loaf by the Ovenby emmanuel_higgins

Hosea 7:4

They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened.

Hosea 7 belongs to Hosea's appeal to God's backslidden people, who had mixed with other peoples and turned from God. Calling them all adulterers portrays Israel's people as universally unfaithful to God. Adultery pictures their corrupt and rebellious conduct. The oven heated by the baker is an oven kept hot while the baker waits after kneading the dough until it rises and is leavened. In context, their violence, theft, deceit, and other wickedness surround them and remain fully known to God.
