Isaiah 1:24
Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies: Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:
The utterance comes as the answer when Israel brings to fulfillment the prophetic vision of the faithful city become a harlot. Its setting sets what Jerusalem once was against what she became, once full of judgment with righteousness lodging in her, now filled with murderers, her silver become dross and her wine mixed with water. Her princes are rebellious and companions of thieves, loving gifts and following after rewards, judging not the fatherless and refusing to hear the cause of the widow. The resolve to find ease from adversaries and to take vengeance on enemies is spoken while the heart still pleads for the rebellious son and weeps over the beloved city.
The naming of the Speaker as the Mighty One of Israel makes Him known as the source of strength and encouragement.
