Isaiah 10:24
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
The message was addressed to God's people dwelling in Zion some years before Hezekiah's stand against Assyria. It commanded Zion not to be afraid of the Assyrian, even though he would smite with a rod and lift up his staff against them after the manner of Egypt's oppression. For a season God was employing the Assyrian as the rod of His anger, a temporary instrument for the punishment and judgment of the nations.
That temporary use meant Assyria would not prevail permanently. In yet a very little while God would turn judgment against the oppressor, break his power, and take away and destroy the burden from the shoulder and the yoke from the neck. This gave certain ground for unfailing courage and confidence that the Lord God would help Judah, fight its battles, and deliver Jerusalem from destruction.
