Jackals and an Owl Among the Ruins of Babylonby emmanuel_higgins

Isaiah 13:21

But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.

The houses of the city would be emptied of people and filled instead with wild beasts and mournful creatures. Its former homes would lie in ruins, inhabited by wild life rather than human dwellers. Together with the prophecy surrounding it, this foretells complete desolation to follow its fall, leaving Babylon an uninhabited and waste place. That desolation would not be temporary but permanent. Babylon, once the glory of kingdoms, would be made like Sodom and Gomorrah, forever accursed and never again inhabited.
