Isaiah 16:10
And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease.
Isaiah 16:10 belongs to Isaiah's prophecy against Moab and stands within his predictions concerning that nation. Moab was one of the oppressors of Judah, and the prophecy is directed against it in that character.
The verse portrays judgment in which gladness is removed and joy is taken from the fruitful field. In the vineyards there is no singing and no shouting, the treaders tread out no wine in the presses, and the vintage shouting is brought to an end. The wine spoken of is fresh grape juice as it comes from the winepress, where the treaders press it out, although in this setting none is produced and the gladness and singing of harvest cease. That kind of wine is wholesome food approved in Scripture.
