Isaiah 17:13
The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
The surging nations are powers hostile to God's loyal people, but they cannot overpower them. Though they rush forward like the rushing of many waters, God rebukes them and they flee far off. They are chased and driven away as light chaff of the mountains scattered before the wind and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. Even the greatest human powers are as nothing before the Creator and will not overcome them.
The scattering of the enemy takes place when God's people honor Him and remain obedient to His commandments. The verse gives God's people reason for courage as they uphold righteousness and strive for victory. The church's hope of a bright and glorious day depends on being clothed with Christ's righteousness and withdrawing allegiance from the world.
