Isaiah 17:9
In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation. In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.
Isaiah 17:9 stands within a larger section of Isaiah made up of prophecies against the nations, including Babylon, Philistia, and Moab. Within that group, chapter 17 is directed specifically against Damascus, a great and ancient merchant city in Syria. Its message is God's judgment upon Damascus, declaring its destruction and resulting desolation.
