Ethiopian Envoys Sail the Nile in a Reed Boatby emmanuel_higgins

Isaiah 18:2

That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

The verse portrays God's people as scattered, torn, and peeled. That portrayal belongs to the time after the work for the world closed in October 1844. At that time God's honest people were left perplexed by conflicting claims. After that closing they stood in need of comfort and strength.

The visions were given to comfort and strengthen the people so described. The swift messengers are workers sent to do God's work. Brother Chamberlain was one worker whom God sent in fulfillment of that description. The work of such messengers involves trials whose reward must be valued above their cost.
