Isaiah 19:13
The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof. The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof.
The verse belongs to the burden of Egypt, a prophecy concerning Egypt of God's judgments upon it. It shows the princes of Zoan become fools and the princes of Noph deceived, seducing and misleading Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof. As part of this prophecy, Egypt was to be invaded, conquered, and spoiled, to fall into the hands of strangers forever, to become the basest of the kingdoms, never again to rule over the nations, to have no more a native prince, and to renounce idolatry.
Isaiah 19:1-13 was fulfilled by invasion by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and subjection by the Persians under Cambyses, followed by subjection to the Macedonians by Alexander the Great, followed by rule of the Ptolemies, Romans, Saracens, Mamelukes, and Turks. This left Egypt for more than twenty-three centuries deprived of her natural proprietors and condemned to perpetual servitude under strangers and slaves. The chapter's prophecy was fulfilled centuries ago, already fulfilled in Egypt in large part.
Nothing in Isaiah 19 awaits fulfillment in modern times. Isaiah 19 evidently points to the preaching of the gospel in Egypt and Assyria in New Testament times.
