Isaiah 19:23
In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.
Isaiah 19 describes the revolutions and future state of Egypt. Its opening verses foretell the subjection of Egypt to the Macedonians under Alexander the Great. That conquest was one stage in a long succession of invasion, conquest, spoiling, and rule by strangers — Babylonians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Saracens, Mamelukes, and Turks — by which Egypt became and remained the basest of kingdoms.
Verse 23 belongs to a prophecy about the spread of God's truth and its fruits in Egypt, whose fulfillment included a center of worship in Egypt and strong Christian churches there. It was fulfilled in the preaching of the Gospel in both Egypt and Assyria in New Testament times. It belongs to a prophecy fulfilled centuries ago, not to one awaiting fulfillment in modern times.
