Isaiah 2:3
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is the mountain of the Lord, the central place of gathering for worship to which all the world goes up. In former ages God's law and word and truth and light went forth out of Zion at Jerusalem to distant lands to teach people His ways. God Himself teaches His people His ways and leads them to walk in His paths. As He taught Jacob, He will teach all who seek Him in faith even when they feel weak, and they are to trust Him fully rather than rely on others.
Becoming familiar with His Word in this way is the only way to attain the perfection of character He requires. In requiring obedience to the laws of His kingdom, the Ten Commandments built as a hedge about His subjects to preserve them from transgression, He gives His people health and happiness, peace and joy. Like the light once going forth from Zion, scriptural truth in the Reformation spread from Wittenberg to distant places, so that Wittenberg serves as a Zion from which light shines.
Students flocked from all parts of Germany to hear the teaching at Wittenberg and carried it abroad, so its light penetrated to the most remote countries. That central place of worship belongs to Jerusalem and is not to be filled by Battle Creek. Instead of centering many important interests in one place, the work is to be scattered over greater territory and built up with facilities and means in other localities.
