Isaiah 2:8

Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

Judah had widely forgotten its Maker, and that forgetfulness had led to idolatry spread throughout the land. The practice had grown so common that it no longer caused surprise. Both the lowly and the great bowed down to the idols. What they worshiped was the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers had made. They fashioned images from valuable materials and worshiped that handiwork instead of honoring God as the Creator who had provided everything they possessed. They taught their children to regard those handmade images as gods and set apart attractive groves for idol worship.

Idolatry also includes ambitious human devising that lifts a person above fellow men. Although man has received everything from God's hand and is in himself nothing to be accounted of, in his ambitious mind he fashions something God has not directed, and that thing becomes his idol to which he gives worship. God will not sanction that self-exaltation but speaks to reprove and correct it in judgment.
