Isaiah 21:8
And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights: And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:
The lion-like cry from the tower is the voice of one who never leaves his station, holding his daytime place without break and keeping his appointed night watches in full. Constant guarding and loud warning belong together in the office, so that watching always issues in sounding the alarm. That watchman is Christ's faithful ministers set over the church, standing guard for its safety and earnestly warning and pleading with it in a time of unrest when apostasy and blasphemy are growing. Zion, the people who keep God's commandments, are therefore to look to the Lord alone as their strength and their shelter and protection.
