Isaiah 22:18
He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord’s house. He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord’s house.
Isaiah 22:18 belongs to the prophecy against Jerusalem, specifically the judgment concerning the valley of vision, rather than to the oracles against foreign nations. It warns that a man will be forcibly driven from his place and tossed like a ball into a distant, large country, where he will die. The splendid chariots in which he took pride will become shame to his lord's house.
The tossing means the Lord violently cast Zion like a ball into the hand of the Assyrians, where she would experience the iron yoke of oppression for seventy years. The casting happened because Zion was spiritually conquered through altars to the host of heaven, passing sons through the fire, observing times, using enchantments, and dealing with familiar spirits. That spiritual conquest united her to Babylon so that her life and practices became one with those under opposing spiritual authority. After the kingdom of God was overthrown spiritually, God permitted it to be overthrown visibly and gave up His beloved to go and dwell with the daughter of Babylon.
The image of casting away like a ball also shows God's coming judgment in which He sweeps the earth with destruction. Those who oppose God may continue in rebellion for a time, but their day of reckoning is coming.
