Isaiah 22:20

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:

Isaiah 22:20 stands in the first division of the book, chapters 1-39, which gathers prophecies and historical accounts belonging to the prophet's years of active labor, delivered on separate occasions and afterward brought together into one collection. Within that broad outline its chapter is aimed against Jerusalem itself, and does not belong to the prophecies against foreign nations that surround it. Eliakim the son of Hilkiah was set over Hezekiah's household, and in that office he figures Christ's authority to open and to shut doors, for the way is opened by Christ's Word and Spirit alone, and his servants exercise that opening and shutting only as they bear his message.
