Isaiah 22:4

Therefore said I, Look away from me; I will weep bitterly, labour not to comfort me, because of the spoiling of the daughter of my people.

The chapter containing the verse is directed against Jerusalem, standing apart from the prophecies against foreign nations that surround it in the outline of the book. It is a prophecy concerning Israel, grouped with prophecies concerning Assyria, the wilderness of the South, and Idumea. The verse belongs to the prophet's judgments on various nations and peoples, in the section called the burden of the valley of vision. It expresses bitter grief over the destruction, devastation and suffering of the prophet's people, the people of Judah and Jerusalem. In that grief the prophet refuses to be comforted.
