Isaiah 24:16

From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

The cry of my leanness means spiritual leanness and barrenness, the mournful condition of a divided heart without full consecration to God. That divided and unconsecrated state makes the Christian life hard and unsteady in every way. Selfishness and love of the world make those who profess to love God inwardly poor.

Without the zeal that comes from full consecration the soul does only limited good, wins no souls by personal influence, and leaves even its own salvation doubtful. In that condition people forget God and hold back the offerings and sacrifices that would express gratitude and trust, although God has put means in their hands to test the depth of their love. With rich consecration and zeal the cry of leanness would give way to joyful testimony of what the Lord has done and to faithful work that can receive the Master's approval.
