Feast on the Mountain for All Peoplesby emmanuel_higgins

Isaiah 25:6

And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

In this mountain the Lord of hosts makes for all people a rich, abundant, excellent feast. That feast belongs to the future when He shall have destroyed all pride and self-exaltation. It belongs to the promises of Judah's future restoration and the Messiah's deliverance, expressing the blessings and joy of God's triumph.

The feast comes when God has been a strength to the poor and needy in distress, a refuge from the storm and a shadow from the heat, and has brought down the noise of strangers and the branch of the terrible ones. It stands together with destroying the covering cast over all people and the veil spread over all nations, swallowing up death in victory, wiping away tears from all faces, and taking away the rebuke of His people from the earth. In that setting is heard the saying in that day, Lo, this is our God, we have waited for Him and He will save us, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.

The language of fat things full of marrow describes God's utterance as plain and beautiful and full of marrow and fatness. Its plain facts the common mind accepts while discerning the Divine in it, whereas the narrow mind hesitates and stumbles over possible mistakes of copyist or translator and over mysteries feeble minds cannot see through. Such minds manufacture difficulties from the plainest revealed truth that need cause no soul trouble or cause any feet to stumble. The feast pictures the nourishment and satisfaction found in God's word and in receiving Christ, whose abundance answers every need, and its invitation calls for a willing response and wholehearted seeking of God.

The feast shows the marriage covenant and the science of salvation as the blessing of pardon, the removing and taking away of sins by free access of grace unto the riches of His glory, with the dinner prepared and ready. The Word received and practiced here is the preparation to come into church relationship and to be presented rightly at the wedding, for which the needed wedding garment is the righteousness of Christ. The feast is a present spiritual feast of fat things from the Lord's table, and the fat things are large morsels of clear and distinct light shining from the Word of God. They are justification by faith, Christ our righteousness, the message of light and truth that is just the truth for this time. Those who hear it grow in faith and in the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, testify that the past year has been the best of their life, and wherever the message goes among the churches it brings light and relief and the blessing of God, while seeing souls grasp the light brings rejoicing in looking unto Jesus as the Author and Finisher of faith.

The feast is a present feast God spreads in light about Christ, enjoyed as souls grasp the light and bringing rejoicing to those who see it received. It centers on looking to Jesus as the Author and Finisher of faith, the great pattern whose character must become the believer's character and in whom is all excellence. With open face beholding Jesus in all His glory the mind is filled with grand and overpowering ideas of His excellency until every other object sinks into insignificance and every part of moral discipline aims at likeness to His image. The feast opens heights and depths still to be reached by accepting every ray of light and going forward to greater light, and it calls for wakefulness because the end is near.

The feast of fat things is the wonderful, precious truths and solid instruction brought before the mind to be built into character, spoken by human lips touched with a live coal from off the altar as light sown for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart. The verse means to praise God for that light, to talk of those truths and of Jesus, and to keep the highest wisdom and the duties of faith in harmony. It means spending as little time as possible on trials, disappointments, and the mistakes and lack of love seen in others. Sharing good reports of God's blessing and the advance of His work with believers gathered to visit, converse, and pray together is such a rich, satisfying spiritual feast of fat things that brings encouragement, joy, and thankfulness.
