I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.
The "it" kept and watered is His vineyard, His church, specifically the Jewish church, the house of Israel and the men of Judah, His pleasant plant, the vine He brought out of Egypt and planted. To keep it, to water it every moment, and to keep it night and day lest any hurt it means the Lord Himself tends, supplies, protects and sustains what belongs to Him with continual, tender, unceasing care, so that nothing harms it and evil cannot hurt it. He guards His people day and night and waters them at every moment.
He has no fury toward the vineyard, but would go through and burn altogether the briars and thorns set against it in battle. Having given every benefit and blessing to enrich it and looking to receive fruit from it, He promises that those who come of Jacob shall take root and Israel shall blossom and bud and fill the face of the world with fruit. His care and labor are not withdrawn or lessened but increased, even after a period of added probation and despite failure to respond. This applies to Christ's ongoing labor for a person in need of mercy during a time of mercy, giving opportunity to repent and bear fruit.
Its faithful keepers are assured of His care as He gathers its fruits and carries out His purpose for salvation. Because of this keeping, believers need not live in fear, despair, gloom and darkness, but can trust in Christ's loving care. This keeping means believers must not dishonor the Saviour by following feelings and emotions, making their own light, or being tossed about like restless waves of the sea. They must leave every other leader and follow Jesus alone as light and truth and life, and be strengthened, established, rooted and grounded and built up in the most holy faith.
This constant care is an example for Christ's workers, who are to labor with matching diligence and zeal rather than let worldly interests or false teaching endanger the work. The Lord waters and watches over the spiritual seed sown by medical missionaries who minister to the needs of soul as well as body. When the truth of Christ's power to save is spoken in season and the promises of the Bible are repeated to those who are sick and discouraged, God keeps that sowing to give hope and courage that may save both soul and body and save many souls. The Holy Spirit works together with the worker who labors in the fear and love of God, to whom God gives wisdom and success.
