Isaiah 28:23

Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.

The verse is a call to give ear and to hearken, to listen closely and carefully to God's voice and His instruction. It opens a teaching in which God calls people to hear His instruction about farming and practical skill. The verses that follow illustrate that call by showing that God Himself teaches that skill, even teaching the plowman how to work wisely.

That divine teaching covers how to prepare the soil and how to sow different seeds, each in its proper way. It covers how to thresh each crop with the method suited to it, using sound judgment and the right methods for different tasks and different crops. All such wisdom for practical work comes from God, whose counsel is wonderful and whose work is excellent.
