Isaiah 28:3

The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:

The verse depicts the glory of Ephraim as the boast of intoxicated men, a crown of pride destined to be cast down and trampled underfoot. Its splendor is not enduring but fading, a beauty that withers quickly under divine judgment. That overthrow stands as a warning illustrated by the destruction of San Francisco, showing how suddenly human pride and magnificence can be laid low. The same judgment points to further calamities to follow in rapid succession in different places, each repeating the lesson of humbled pride.
