Isaiah 28:8

For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

The tables covered with vomit and filth until no clean place remains picture the moral and spiritual corruption produced by drunkenness. In its setting the drunkards are priests and prophets, intoxicated so that they err in vision and stumble in judgment. As a warning it points to destruction, applying to cities that continue in strong drink and its temptations without repentance. That application holds even where God's judgments have already fallen and yet the people have not repented.

In such cities saloons remain open and alcoholic drinks are sold under legal protection, with poisonous adulterants added to increase their harm. Those drinks impair judgment, including among people in responsible positions, and bring suffering upon families.
